I wrote a Song for You

I wrote a song for you tonight, yet it did not rhyme.

I sang of new love unfulfilled, but I am patient with the presence of time.

I wept for you in silence today as you slept, yet I still dreamed of our dream.

Mile upon mile we travelled the road back home; mile after mile; tear upon tear.

Your burden is heavy, but so is mine as I sleep tonight in a chair by you side.

Your life has been one that has been filled with sorrow and too much strife.

However, my sweet Jan, someday, And by the grace of God you will be my wife.

 You have never known the love that I have known in this journey of life.

Yet in me, you have found the security of love, and I wait for you to become my wife.

Yes sweet Jan, I wrote a song for you tonight, but it did not rhyme.

So sleep well my dear, dream the dreams of your childhood, aand know that by, and through me ….you will forever be mine.
