What Happened To Me????

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Time can be cruel…this is me in 1974…what about you? I would love just for myself to see…what time, oh time that harsh mistress hath done to thee…share if you will…. Send your before and after….smiles

What Happened To Me????

What happened to me?

This a friend asked,

And now I can’t believe.

I looked in the mirror and ran away.

That can’t be me, that’s not my face.

NO WAY.

The mirror had to lie, no way was this I.

I remember the face on the photo that above you see.

But again my friend pointed out that time is a thief.

It is hard now for me to believe that the kid in the photo was me.

They say that with age comes wisdom and often that is true .

Yet to look in the mirror; to see what once was now makes me blue.

For I remember that kid so well, I remember all the girls in the show.

I recall how they stroked my hair and said of me they wished to know.

Oh Lord….what happened to me?

Hey, time flies and we change. But your poem does strike a chord of truth with me. . . absolutely.

You are right. With age comes wisdom but with wisdom comes worry and with worry comes age. It's a no win situation
God bless,
Lew

We got older, my friend. :) I tell everyone, I'm (nearly) 51 (this Saturday, the 26th), but my body's convinced it's 112. =] Well penned, (((Allen)))!

(((HUGS))), love and continued prayer, Karla.

I wonder the same thing, Allen. I look in the mirror, and I see a fat, old woman with greying hair and deepening wrinkles that weren't there a few years ago until I had gotten very sick and ended up in the hospital for a month and dealing with three surgeries on my stomach in a week's time. That last episode has truly aged me. *Sigh* And on Saturday, twin sis and I will be *GASP* 51 years old! O, to reclaim the energy and stamina I had as a youth just a few years ago ... now I just plod through life on my crutches and wish I were younger again ... I shouldn't complain, though: God has allowed me to emerge from my illness, and He's given my twin and I another year of living ... we are blessed, very blessed, and so are you! Heartfelt poem, Allen; well penned! Love the piccy!

(((HUGS))) and much love (and continued prayers!),

As always, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

This is a wholesome poem, filled with questions about life and how fast it goes by..I shall try and dig out a photo and then I would have to scan it into my hard drive.. It may take me a few days to figure all of that out..lol :)

Much peace, love and light,
Amber "V"
