Breakfast for Two; Day One…On the Journey to the Sea

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

This Piece and PHOTO is from day one located just a few miles inland from the sea, where along the steamy south coast of Georgia on our sojourn off the beaten path we go. Southward it is to renewal of both mind and spirit. Radiation therapy waits upon my return, but this week is ours, and what a blessing it is turning out to be.

Breakfast for Two; Day One…On the Journey to the Sea

Seven in the morning I awoke still feeling tired and a little bit blue.

Sleeping in a new place always make me sleep very, very light.

So off to the free continental breakfast I go for this morning’s food.

Yet what I thought would be breakfast for one as I sat in the sun by the pool,

Turned out to my sweet, sweet surprise a precious breakfast for two.

I had seen them last night when at the quality inn we did arrive.

A brother and sister so cute, almost a grey-blue trying just to survive.

We fed them in the bushes the remains of our Popeye’s chicken plate.

There must have been twelve or so pieces of which they ate and ate.

I had asked for extra for out behind Popeye’s there was another cat I did see.

I wanted to also give some to him as it was plain to tell he was in need.

So this I did to which he purred and ate and then back to the room real slow I go.

Where both Jan and I then ate our fill and the remains went to the quality inn kittens much to their thrill.

But this morning’s breakfast took me by surprise for I thought I would be eating alone since Jan had yet to open her eyes.

So as I sat by the pool drinking my coffee and checking my phone.

I looked up and realized that I was no longer eating alone.

I can’t wait to see what will happen next as southward we continue to go.

Another blessing in disguise???

Another day to bless another???

I have no idea…I just know it’s great to be alive.

I just know the journey continues and I wait for another precious moment to arrive.

PS: I did slip back in and poured them their own bowl of milk to which they drank to their hearts content...wish I could take them home :)
