Life is But a Vapor

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

The world is in turmoil, children are killing children. Nations are committing genocide. Small children are taken, lives are shaken and dreams of a future with darkness collide. This is from a dream that keeps coming to me, a dream that I pray God would take away from me.

Life is But a Vapor

The soul is a breath of life given by God,

Whispers sleep soft like vapors in the cold night.

We cry, we blink and we see the dawning of light.

This is only the beginning of travail in our earthly plight.

I’ve seen the eyes of those who died,

I’ve seen the hopelessness of a homeless mans stare.

I’ve witnessed the misfortunes that have befallen mankind.

And I wonder in the silence of this cold night who may care.

Belief in eternity for so many bears no meaning.

Yet I say now unto the world that time draws nigh.

For God’s promise of gleaning has come to it’s time.

One only has to look and see the world that surrounds us all.

To the faint of heart, they I pray will hear His call.

For we are like unto a vapor,

A single, yet solitaire wisp of smoke.

We’re here today and gone tomorrow,

Yet the past, nor the present knows whence we shall go.

Beware all that shall hear this plea,

Look up, seek Him and ye shall be free.

For dreams assail me each and every single night.

I see brother against brother and the coming of the darkening plight.

My heart is burdened by those souls who shall refuse to see.

That our days are numbered like the grains of sand and our minds are born of lust.

So hearken now these my pitiful words and turn your heart over to Him, who you shall eternally trust.

For I see smoldering cities, I see anarchy claim the land.

Yet we could all be spared this, if we only took Jesus by the hand.

Death knows no love and weeping men sleep in silent graves.

Yet if we had harkened and followed Him, our eternal souls would have been saved.

So sleep tight this night,

Pray now that it shall be not be your last.

For the light burns low and the coming of the Son of Man,

We shall all soon know.

For as said before, we are like vapors in a silent wind.

We know no beginning and sadly we know our coming end.

Seek Him now for while you in life still have a chance.

Because today this, this night may be your last chance to dance.

*Repent; seek Him, for He gave His life for you, that you should be free!

My Bubba,
It's eerie how little faith there is in the world now..
even though Christ walked among us in the flesh over 2000 years ago, and it is well-documented, besides the Bible. Do you remember? He even asked, "Will I find faith when I return?"
The Good News is, It's just another sign of His soon return to gather us to Himself, hallelujah!

Thank You for your continuing boldness to speak what the LORD is revealing to you, Bubba, in prophetic visions. He is pouring out His spirit on all flesh, according to His word, and we both know He NEVER lies.
Take comfort, Bubba, in that you have done your part.. now let those who have ears TO hear.. hear.

Like yourself, it is my fervent prayer they do so..that none should perish.

We must continue to serve GOD and not man,, may the words of our lips and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in Thy sight, O' LORD!

Well done, Good and Faithful Servant, Amen.

Love and blessings, Sis

I hope your pessimistic view herein does not come about & yes I know the world is suffering and we all need to do something about that suffering...I think every one is doing their best...what else can we do...e

You present a pessimistic view of life, with a Christian spin on it, often expressed in the past. However, the facts just don't bear out your fears. In spite of the terrorist act of 9/11 and two wars since involving Great Britain and the United States, the world is generally a better place, and much better off than much of the twentieth century when hundreds of millions died in two world wars and the world was held hostage to nuclear annihilation for over forty years.

I rest well knowing that the future will be better than the past. Of course we will have to act on our problems, now both seen in real time from multiple sources, and both countered in real time with real, positive, solutions. A good example is the good work that Mr. Ed and so any others like him, are doing.
