Serena

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Last week was to be the last of my poems of ‘The People of Logan’s Roadhouse’ series. Yet today Jan and I on our weekly getaway had a gracious chat with another waitress who grew up on my street and I have known her since she was but a child. As I ‘listened’ to her speak I was amazed with her wisdom…Thus this is dedicated to Serena…

Poem Artwork

Serena; just the very name invokes the presence of peace…’Serene’
Oh how not only did this name, but her persona illuminate the entire room.
Her eagerness to learn, her passion to rise above, her depth and ability to hear and discern.
All to often we people of age fail to see the goodness of the next generation coming to age.

We all too many times generalize that the youth of today have lost their way.
Yet with Serena as with the many in this series I see our youth in a new light and day.

Even at my age as I come closer and closer to my last breath and my final sight,
I see the promise of a better tomorrow in the youth of these young people so young and bright.

Serena, I shan’t never in simple words to you be able to explain how much our conversation meant to me this day.
May all you dreams come to be.
For you like the others have in earnest expressed your dreams and your hope to me.

Thus now I leave ‘Logan’s Roadhouse’ with a smile on my face,
For I’ll always remember you;
Emily, The Butterfly;
Kayla, A Flower Blooms Amongst A Field Of Tares;
Lucas, The Gatekeeper;
Tara, The Summer Breeze;
Olivia;
Kimberley, From Darkness Into Light;
Sarah, For All Things Great and Small;
Lindsay, A Teacher of Dreams;
And of course…Serena.

I don't hang out in a roadhouse, either to drink or eat, although they have them here in rural areas that probably have a stable staff and clientele… I really wouldn't know.

Although I have been in contact with younger people and find that, what they lack in scientific and cultural knowledge, they make up for by social networking. They're communicative and resourceful.

Thank you for the tributes.
