Get Thee Behind Me Satan

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Rage or Rage…

Rage, Oh Rage, leave me now for I seek only the light.
Yet your sword pierces my heart upon first strike.

Get Thee Behind Me Satan

Henceforth where doth these eyes of darkness arise?
I feel their cold stare,
I see them dance in the night times of my mind.

I know you, I know who you are from the lost days of my past.
I smell the death of ages on your fingers of darkness as you assail my soul.

I know of your beginnings and they are born of the very pits of Hell.
Yeah but I command you to get thee behind me,
And cast never more your dark spell.

You, Oh Satan bring on this silent and hidden rage.
Damnation befalls this soul as I seek and seek His amazing grace.

Torrents of rage come in waves like ancient monsoons tearing.
Rearing against the broken walls lain upon my closing days.

Leave now in Jesus name, loose me pray tell from this blinding rage.
Lift now my soul, dear Lord from this oppression that has set now upon me.

Free me sweet Jesus from the chains and set me once again free.
Thus go now you, this serpent of Hell and Death.
Release this spirit, set me now free…
For I am covered in the Blood of Jesus and you, Oh Dark One have no claim on me.

Oh Lord I pray that this day you set me free.
For my wall crumbles each day…
My life has become overtaken by this hidden rage.

Oh God, Oh God, I rage on into the night.
I seek deliverance from this damnations plight.

I hear the men of lies speak;
Damnation, not praise from their shallow hearts creep.
I rebuke their words, but like swords hovered on the stones of Hell this heart they penetrate…

Rage, Oh Rage, leave me now for I seek only the light.
Yet your sword pierces my heart upon first strike.

Never more said the black crow upon my windows clouded seal.
Never more, never more cried he, for you in your rage follow on broken feet my every will.

Damn this day and curse I in the coming night.
For no one knows of this silent rage which has stole my sight.

I thus now remember faint visions born upon a land of promise and dreams.
Yet now the seeds of rage grows and grows upon horizons unseen….

Remarkable, Mr./Ms. Wilson. I wonder that we don't see this parable as 'out of sight, out of mind' ... what we might call a repressed trauma which nonetheless guides us and our actions - as Jesus and his church so often seem to be manipulated, like puppets, by the Satan they despise. After all, if the precedence of birth has any historical and cultural validity, Satan was the first-born and seems destined to 'inherit' the Earth. Here's to your passionate and well penned outcry. Be well, Jan

Wonderful prayer poem!

My favorite verses:
Leave now in Jesus name, loose me pray tell from this blinding rage.
Lift now my soul, dear Lord from this oppression that has set now upon me.

Free me sweet Jesus from the chains and set me once again free.
Thus go now you, this serpent of Hell and Death.
Release this spirit, set me now free…
For I am covered in the Blood of Jesus and you, Oh Dark One have no claim on me.

Oh Lord I pray that this day you set me free.
For my wall crumbles each day…
My life has become overtaken by this hidden rage.

AMEN!
