We all must be ready as we never know when that night train will come for us. I have my ticket always near my heart. Do you?

The Night Train

I hear the faint rumbling of the night train on the edge of time. It's melodious rhythm soothes this weary and time worn mind.

Through the darkness I hear the clackety clack as it slowly makes its way. Getting closer and closer with each passing day.

“All aboard, all aboard,’ I can almost hear the conductor say ‘Don‘t be late, all aboard now and have your tickets ready for our next stop is heavens gate.’

I check my heart, I check my soul. I want to be sure that the ticket that I possess is paid in whole, so I check not once but thrice as I see the night trains distant but ever nearing light.

As I stand now on the platform waiting on the arrival of this my final day, I retrace my life's steps and realize the many things I that have done in now my solitude of regret.

I didn't want it to be this way. I didn't wish anyone in my life any sorrow or pain. For I can now recall every facet of my life as I stand on the platform of the edge of a soon to be endless night.

I recall all the things I've said and done. I remember the words which spoke of love and life that I did not say. I see the hurt to others that I in haste did cause as I made it along life's path culminating unto this day.

Louder and louder the sound now grows. Brighter and brighter the trains coming light. I feel fear, I feel the night air. I’m uneasy as my body grows cold.

It's almost here. It's almost time. I see the sparks fill the night sky. I turn back and look as if to my past I wave. Yet it is not there, it is gone. It has in the soft hush of night passed away.

The train is here and I think no more. For what once was has sighed it's last breath. My next stop, my next song shall be sung on a far away and distant shore...

All aboard...

I hear that cho cho trains bells, too many times they pass me bye.

At least I know they know the station or how would I know they passed me bye.

I don't want to ride a choo-choo as that means someone else has to drive and I like to drive myself right up to the parking lot outside the pearly gates if need be...:) -e-

Your metaphor for the coming expectation is beautifully written and easily understood. Bravo!

I will be making slight revisions to my will today, but if I don't make it, my older will, will do. It feels good to be able to step on that train without any regrets or excess baggage.

Wow! Makes one stop and think that this life is coming to an end sooner or later for all. It's a wake-up call. Yes, I am ready. Peace be with you brother. John Michael
