Oh How Time Changes Things

I was sitting back and relaxing while watching a video of an old rocker doing a tribute song to Lynyrd Skynyrd titled That Smell, ‘Ooooh that smell, the smell of death surrounds you "... and I remarked to Jan that the crowd didn't seem too enthusiastic.
For I remember being at the last concert Skynard played before their plane crashed into the ground. I remember people shoulder to shoulder jumping up and down in sync, yet as I looked at this crowd all I saw was some heads bobbing up and down with some even waving their canes skyward.
It was then at that moment that it dawned on me why they were not too enthusiastic... they were all too damn old to jump up and down. I then said to Jan, oh my... those people are me.

Oh How Time Changes Things
Tricks of the mind, it was you see. I hear the music and all I remember is a young version of me.
So I jump from my chair, well not quite jump because my knees are bad and my right hip passing only for fair.
Off to the bathroom I hobble as I make my way. I look quickly in the mirror and just as fast I look away.
No I shout in my mind, that is not me but if it is, time has to me been very unkind. I think hard to recall back then and I soon realize that it was forty years ago that I last danced to that song. It felt like yesterday but in reality yesterday has left me behind.
I was going to go back and listen to some more, but saddened now I think I'll just make my morning pills and go into my bedroom and close the door.
Ooooh that smell... life's memories can sometimes really suck.
