In the silence of night
I dream
For in my sleep
Lucid visions of you
Are mine to keep.
In the soft hue
Of a morning's light
I see your figure
On the other side.
Slowly and with ease
I approach from behind
Propelled by a desire
To see your face.
A need much stronger
Than dreams.
I gaze intently
At your dress
Of white lace.
I long to caress
The golden locks
Of your hair.
However, this is not
As simple as it seems
For you are now locked
Into my nightly dreams.
With invisible commands
From my mind
I move around you
To the other side.
I can now see your face
Soft and glowing.
I watch in silence
As you lift a silver chalice
To your lips so full and red.
Cut stones of blue
And emerald hue
Cast their tiny beams of light
Into your eyes so blue.
I cry out, "I love you,"
But you hear me not.
I reach out to touch
Your beautiful golden hair
But only pull to me
A fist of air.
Distant but ever nearing
Voices I hear
Faint at first
But growing louder
As they near.
Then with full sound.
The radio's morning show
Pounding in my ear.
I watch helpless
As you
Begin to disappear.
Now with eyes
Still full of sleep
I roll to my bed's side
When on the floor
A small glint
Of light catches my eye.
For there
Next to my shoes
Lay two tiny stones
Of emerald hue.
