Just You

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Wednesday, December 17, 2003

Days bled into weeks

 and weeks into painful months,

as time dragged its rusty blade

 across my broken heart.

Leaving me to stand alone,

behind these walls we called home.

You left me, you left ME without a clue,

For I came home from work one day

And found your closet empty,

Minus the one torn and ragged shoe,

A tacky note on the fridge proclaimed,

That you felt bound, and had another flame.

You spoke of things that were never true ,

But you will never know how your leaving

has left me…torn. worn and blue.

My longing for you has left me in a weakened state,

And when you called to say you were returning today,

I..well… I did not know what to you I should say,

You said it was all a mistake, and that he meant nothing to you.

You said that he had found one younger

And that he never loved you, for it was just a game

That he liked to play, he even showed you

Photos of others that he had also brought shame.

However now, its to me you wish to return.

But how can I ever say yes to your cruel request,

how can I ever forgive you?

It was I that you forsook, It was I who wanted to die.

And now you want it to be, like you never left me.

I really do not know what I should do,

For darling, I really..really love just you.
