Mirror Of Life

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Sunday, December 21, 2003

Oh young ones, there is so little that you know.

For your innocence is refreshing as new fallen snow.

Untouched is your heart by the bitterness that some posses,

on this aspect that we call, growing old.

Your future beckons unto you like an eternal light,

Showering you with a tomorrow, that promises to be bright.

Few have been your pains, with life so brief and short.

Little have you suffered in your journey today.

But someday, oh young one, time will win this eternal race.

So seek not to glory in fortune or fame, for much too soon,

there will be a mirror that you too will have to face.

And when you spy, the reflection looking back at thee,

Will you be able to answer what is demanded by He?

Have you been kind to your fellow man?

Have you ever extended a helping hand?

Have you sought a life of give and “not” take?

Are you genuine, sincere, and not bogus or fake?

These are but a few of the many questions that will arise,

As you look in the mirror of life that defines.

So young one, with a future so bright,

Lay your course now, to help man and his plight,

Help all those that have a need,

Give hope to others and share your light.

For many in this life you will see,

Travel alone in the darkness and desire to be free.

Do this oh young one, and you will see,

That when you reach the very end,

You shall be, more than able to perceive,

The reflection of love genuine,

And how it truly flatters thee.
