One Link At A Time

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Sunday, January 25, 2004

Tiny snippets of spiteful insincerity slither,

unaware from your somewhat troubled mind.

As you feign a beleaguered attempt at being kind.

Your smile is but a faux semblance

of a black heart that no longer cares,

and the testimony of your sad life

reveals that love, you no longer share.

However, time is but a dribble in this pond of eternity,

and still you grumble and quibble, on and on incessantly.

When, oh when I wonder, will you at last truly see,

that the hate that you still harbor will soon destroy thee.

For the memories that you hold are the ones that bind your soul.

And with each false attempt, from your heart so barren and black,

To parlay but a bit kindness to another, leaves one shaken and cold.

Thus revealing to all those that surround you

that your mind is troubled and has begun to crack

So listen to me, and heed this worthy call,

and I will help save you from it all.

For you know that I know…

of the pain that your heart grows

and I with patience and understanding,

will loosen the chains that imprison your mind,

I in loves flawless quest, will do so…one link at a time.

One link at a time hmmm? What can I say, if it hits home to everyone, then it's truly a heartfelt, inspirational write.

I like the command of language in this one, Allen. I like how you put it - "One link at a time" - very expressive indeed!
