A Ticket From The Masters Hand

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Monday, February 9, 2004

Have you ever heard it said, and know it to be so,

that when a mans time has come, he shall know?

Have you ever really seen…

that when there is nothing left and no more dreams,

that man will begin to hear a faint whistle blow?

If you have seen, and you really know,

you can then attest to life’s simple quest,

which is,… to find an eloquent peace

before the last trains dark approach.

For standing there now, with a ticket in his hand,

is a man that I know…one who has heard that whistles blow.

And now with his peace secure and finally made,

he will soon in sorrows show… greet the last train.

As his memories of a life unfulfilled…begin to fade.

For soon, he shall start a journey anew

With other like himself, who also did know,

That their time had come, and they too must go.

So grieve not for those who have taken their leave,

For they received their ticket from the Masters hand…months ago.

Not sure I agree with the sentiments in this poem, but it was a great write nonetheless

My friend, this is a special poem to me.
My cousin Deborah has passed away of cancer.
She'd gotten her special ticket from the
Master's hand and heard his whistle. God
bless you for this write. Your talent
always amazes me.

Yf, *Linda*

The Wise/elderly accept death gracefully as they return home, we can learn a lot by witnessing how they celebrate this, as we celebrate birth. It is all one wonderful cycle. Wonderful write.

Your words are always so inspiring, J. Allen!
Even when you write of death, there is an inherent
hope in the verse somewhere.
