Savannah Is Calling

Poem Artwork
The rain is falling

and I hear Savannah calling,

calling out to me by name,

singing me a new song, one of coming home,

a song of longing and love just the same.

For the rain is falling,

and the tides of Savannah are calling,

beckoning both you and me,

to come and explore its magic

and to sit in silence and contemplate the sea.

Oh Savannah, I hear your tender plea,

and I will at your calling at last be free.

For you are my love and my dreams.

For I eat and sleep of your cobblestone streets

lined with its massive moss covered oaks.

And you will soon find me there…. where the river meets the sea.

Oh the rain is falling…and yes…

Savannah is calling.

Calling out my name…

This is a wonderful poem and makes me miss Savannah myself. I lived there for a few years in the early eighties. I hope to go back and see it again soon, and your poem just makes me want to go more.

I kinda thought you might be more of a Tybee Island person, Al, and that could refresh your spirit & soul after your recent loss, but howsoever you do it, as long as you feel better...Peace bro', Ed & Rufuz

I haven't read too many love songs written to cities, but this is one for sure.

Yes Sir! When Savannah gets in your blood she becomes that beautiful lady that will beckon you forever. She has here mystery , her own beauty, her aromatic perfume and she will seduce you like the vixen she is in her azaleas and Spanish Moss. You are, indeed, smitten in a most seductive southern tradition. She takes no prisoners...she keeps her lovers forever.
This is a super write that makes me homesick. I'm lucky now though. I can get to savannah in a few hours.

Love,
Susan

Makes me want to visit, esp. on a sultry day, sipping iced tea.
