I Am The Captain

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Thursday, March 4, 2004

I am the captain, I am the ship,

And I have navigated a desiccated sea.

For the torch of hope has lost its grip

And the crew, and the wind, have abandoned me.

Oh listless now are my tattered sails and gone are the gales,

that once carried the shallow fury of my irreverent and flawed sight.

for little remains of life’s minuscule gains, and my vision slowly fails.

So loosen the chain, that has anchored me to this eternal night.

For I am the Captain, and I am the ship,

And beneath this soulless horizon, I beg to slip.

For my hold has taken on more than it can possibly bare,

And soon, oh so soon, this ship, and this Captain, will vanish…

Simply vanish beneath a waterless sea… and evaporate into thin air.

So gone is the Captain, and gone is the ship

For they have taken a dwelling outside the realm,

of this dimensionally bound world….

I was the Captain, and I was the ship.

This writing is classical! I love the way it evokes passion and stirs my soul! Truly a work of art! Indeed We are the captains of our lifes. I salute and commend J.A, Wilson the journey is taken, the journey is done. No ocean is big enough and no wave tall enough! May the words rain upon you like manna! And see you at the far side of the world
Cheers mate
