My Heart
The heart finds reasons for thawing.
Strolls closer to the soul than does the mind;
The mind is easier to access, to find, to gauge.
Superficially it impresses, embraces beliefs
Of every kind; behind all perception sits silently.
While the heart getting naughty seems a menace;
To good sense often blind. Yet has a higher destiny;
The intellect it leaves behind, soaring straight
To where salvation lies, where lie joys of every kind.
My heart is a pump that reacts sometimes to what I'm feeling, like racing when I'm excited for slowing down when I relax.
My brain has the capacity to separate emotion and intellect. While emotion (what some people call heart) is a powerful life force, it is important to let intellect be in charge most of the time or one becomes an emotional wreck and a bore to all those around.
Thanks Linda. I don't know if I have talent for writing poetry. I believe I am more of a novelist. You have a fine sensibility, I can see. There are very few takers for my verse because it is a little terse.
