I've seen the future, and for me - a woman of a certain age and at a certain stage in her life - it looks pretty grim. Hopefully I won't fall into the trap of letting myself go and slowly morphing into a little old granny figure like I see other women do when I still feel so vibrant and energetic and, true , I'm no longer a youthful and pretty 'babe' with a narrow waistline, I've got grey hair and I sprout the odd random whisker on my chin sometimes but ... I'm still 'Worth it'!
SAVE ME from becoming the stereo-typical Older Woman
Let the quilted raincoat not be part of my apparel
Nor the bobble hat or beret pulled down tight upon my head
Let my husband’s socks remain in his sock drawer at my peril
I refuse to plump for trainers but choose fancy brogues instead
Let the waddling-walk pass me by as I wander down the street
With my head held high and no slouch apparent in my shoulders
I want to look young and spry to everyone I meet
Though they say beauty is in the eye of the beholders
It’s this age-old thing whereby, a woman once so sexy
Becomes an age where she virtually disappears from view
It’s enough when you think of it to give you apoplexy
Wondering what’s a coming-of-old-age gal supposed to do
So I watch when I’m out, and I see that other women
Of an age, descend into this little-old-biddy stance
Right before your eyes you see your sexy image dimmin'
And feel that in the war on age, you don’t stand a chance
Well, I’ve still got my marbles, and can dye away the greys
“If you can’t beat them, join them” is simply not an option
I’ll think of how to stay youthful in so many different ways
Even if I have to invent my own anti-age concoction.
