Monuments retreat under Time’s harsh gaze,

fighting the futile fight, but fighting all the same

as their stone crumbles, grain, by grain, by grain.

They stood strong and solid – behold triumph!

The ones who’d never break, who’d eternally reign,

staring down with disdain, disdain, disdain.

Mighty voices now stolen by the wind;

fading fragmented echoes, a vanishing stain,

‘Please don’t forget my name, my name, my name.’

As I read down the lines, First word that comes to mind is erosion... What is man made never stands the test of time... only knows how to endure and rise again, by the man power which made the structure... Thanks for sharing...

The monument to you or me will not last for eternity,
but "grain by grain" will fade away and disappear like yesterday.
Hey, that's not bad, is it?
Seriously, I admire your poetry in "Monuments." Makes me think of a Bible verse (out of context, though)--"This too shall pass away."
Man himself is only here for a short season until he disappears from earthly life and fleeting fame. Your echoing of the ending words in each verse gives the illusion of passing time. Good writing!
