Musing on this thing called love

Just sharing some of my own little thoughts on the matter of love, Eros and Agape!

How far does one go, before he's gone too far,
when the heart is involved, who can measure
the desperate need to cling,
to feel that which we desire the most, over everything?
That physical emotion, that sensual sensation
what man wants or desires to live alone,
without another's love to own?,
without a tender smile to awaken to,
without a warm hand to cling to?
Is a soft touch merely a desirous thing,
or the urge to hear another's kind voice, an eccential thing?
Is the cause our need to give, or our need to receive?
Is this not the most honorable thing in which we believe?

Is it not a good thing, that a whisper of affection and desire
to be with you, can cause the heart to pound,
can set the soul  on fire,
or the cause pulse to race and the breath to rise?
and what of this joy when your eyes
see the eyes your eyes most favor,
or taste the sweet kiss from the lips,
your lips most savor?

Is it an obsession to feel depression
when one loses that to which he loves the most,
to seek to get that feeling back at any cost?
And that awesome moment of a child's birth,
which of us can measure it's value, it's worth?
Is it folly to give one's life for that of another?
for the well being of a husband or wife,
for a lover, a sister or brother?

To live this life alone, to be sure,
is not living a real life at all
for what other emotion
are we willing to take this fall?
For what other purpose does one struggle to go on,
stretching out this existence that we defend,
if there is no prize of love and affection at it's end?

Denise, you certainly put forth many questions on the subject of love. Just wish I knew the answers.
Excellently written. Lisa

Future: The Spiritual Story of Humanity by Glenn Martin

Histories of the world are generally written to either celebrate technology and science, or to herald doom. My book examines the path of the spirit in the onward rush.
