They're running in the streets
burning every protest sign,
people buying gold and silver
the future doesn't mind
Some are fixed on television
or the latest internet thrill,
others escape through booze or drugs
we've lost the gift of being still
Man on the street told to " Move along "
"Well Officer-move along where?"
ends up in an emergency room
cop with icicle eyes doesn't care
Pain barely hidden behind porcelain smiles
reality is overwhelming I know,
broken promises after an election
where's the eternal hope for our soul?
Taking pills to go to sleep
pills to forget the bad news,
life is one very long poem
I'm too old to sing the blues
Chronic melancholia hanging from the trees
a helping hand only makes some people bad,
you have to change with the times
be the rainbow when a heart is sad
Man on Television said " ride out the storms
stocks will always rise and fall"
the rich say " the sun is always shining"
the poor are starving in a soup kitchen hall
Youth obsessed with the latest fashion trends
children are dying in Darfur,
the earth rumbles, ice is melting,
" An expedition to Mars"-what does it offer?
They're running in the streets
burning every protest sign,
people buying gold and silver,
the future doesn't mind
Peace,
Dayvid
nicely crafted ...
Blessings,
Christine
