Down the cold dark stairs
as the frost clung to the roof,
Nova Scotian cold, January wind,
enchanting melody, a poet's proof
Coal stove warmth, shadow walls,
ice on windowpane, saw I,
house was quiet, Father gone to work,
an alley cat gave a mournful cry
My eyes longing for my bed
awake my siblings, turn on the radio,
made toast, wondered when the child,
would become the adult I wouldn't know
House was stirring, tired souls creak,
I would hear my Mother's voice,
stars did fade,night became day,
as the Morning's Glory did rejoice
Such a lovely painting of the Novia Scotia Boyhood...
I felt I experienced all of this...
