The old bush hall is all aglow,
See the vehicles come and go,
Dropping folks off to take their chance,
At the good old fashioned Saturday dance.
Blokes in pin stripes hair slicked back,
Stand up one end, having a yack,
Girls all dressed up to the nine,s,
Chattering together they’ll have a great time.
While around the edges of the polished floor,
Sit Aunts and Mums in rows galore,
While on the stage the band strikes up
A lively tune, that’s just enough.
To start proceedings and set them dancing,
And all night long they’ll be up and prancing,
The Pride of Erin, the Old Barn dance
The Progressive Waltz, the Gay Lancers
The band takes breather just for a while,
Children slide up and down the floor with style,
Blokes out the back taking a swig, just on the quiet
Of illegal grog, somebodies aguired just for the night.
Then the band plays on with quite a rush,
The Military two Step brings a flush,
To eager faces, who call for more,
Then a Tango to slow the pace out on the floor..
Yes the Saturday Dance was all the go
That was long before TV you know
We knew how to have a really good time.
At the Saturday dance , it was just sublime.

While I never became a cowboy, considering everything I have done
