Life is like a River

The River of Life.

Life is like a river as it swiftly rushes on,
And we are in its current, being swept along,
No matter how we struggle, it has us in its grip,
We can`t swim against it, we're just like a rudderless ship.

We are buffeted and battered as we fight against the flow,
Being forced in one direction, with no option but to go,
Yes , life is like a river we never know what`s next
But face up to the future , however it must test.

Lifes curents flow around us, bring ing what they may,
Oft the unexpected, as we live from day to day,
No matter how we plan things, so careful and precise,
There`s a rock beneath the water, prepared to take its price.

Sometimes there`s placid water where we can float along,
At others raging rapids, roaring, thundering and strong,
We can only meet the situation and do the best we can,
As we travel life`s long river for our allotted span.

JW July 97.
