We owe them a lot

PIONEERS.

Here’s to those hardy men and woman who opend up our land,
Who faced unknown dangers, coming from a foreign strand,
They knew not what awaited them as they came ashore in boats,
Leaving past behind them, depending on their hopes.

Some were forced to leave their lands because of petty crimes,
Others eager settlers seeking fresh new climes,
That spirit of adventure driving people on,
To make a new beginning with a hope of new freedom

A land so vastly different from the lands from whence they’d come,
A land of unknown contrasts, with a harsh bright burning sun,
Jagged mountain ranges, plains of searing heat,
Strange creatures never seen before, they were sure to meet.

I cannot help but wonder, as they toiled to make a stand,
To carve themsleves a living, from this this unforgiving Land,
Fighting all the elements of drought, then fire then rain,
Seeing all the hard won work wiped out time and time again.

Still the cycles come and go, as seasons pass on by,
Surviving times of drought and flood with like a battle cry,
We won’t give up we’ll conquer it and hope at last we win,
As long as we can draw a breath, gainng strength from deep within.

Yes pioneers were these people, who had a master plan,
They built Australia’s future as they opend up the land,
Passing down that spirit that will forever survive and win,
The spirit of Australia, that spirit of never give in.

A great tribute to the pioneers of Australia, it could also be to those who went out to the Americas and to Africa. Strong brave hearts, I wonder how many of us would have the fortitude, strength and determination that these people showed. Jackie <> <
