JASPER

Tucked away in memory is a scene from the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Canada. One of my favorite places.

JASPER.

Jaggard peaks silhouetted against a clear blue sky,
So sharply etched, they could be cut, from painted coloured ply
Air so clear, so brisk, so clean, that far away distant streams,
Appear in detail, sharp and near,, closer to the scene.

Snow on the mountains, that tower so high, right above the town,
Is white and pure in colour, no hint of black or brown,
Fir trees and forest, climb steep slopes in orderly row on row.
The highway like a twisting ribbon, snaking down below.

Colourful buildings line the sidewalk in an open orgerly style,
The railway track, shining in the sun, bends sharply after a mile.
A totem pole, souvineered, from a long dead local tribe.
Stands mutely on the platform, memorial to those who died.

Tourists tread the sidewalk and marvel at the sights
In the valley below, as sunlight fades, before oncoming night,
Colours reflected in the snow above, give off different hues
The setting sun and dimming light, enhancing all the views.

I count it privilege indeed to have enjoyed the sight,
Of this tiny town of Jasper, both by day and night.
High in the Rocky Mountains mid Canadas scenic store
A memory I will treasure, from now for evermore.

Jasper park and township is beautiful. I have spent many wonderful hiking days there. Did you see the small mountain near Jasper? Its the one I climbed to the top :-) Hope you had a chance to take in some of the hiking trails behind the town of Jasper. Thank you for this sharing!
