Freedom to live was heard this glorious today
in Nigeria from a tiny blue court room of sweltering heat
a few ceiling fans the only cooling breeze of relief

death by stoning was to be the harsh recourse
in sand they would have buried her up to her neck
until only her head was left out for all to behold
then the rocks they would fly, until she was dead
a cry for mercy and justice went out around the world
imploring, commute this brutal egregious sentence
how could this happen in the age of enlightenment
judges heard, reviewed and overturned her sentence
freedom was heard from just judges, this glorious day
