A dozen beautiful ladies
stare lifelessly out at the world. From the aged Erechtheum
above this fabled grecian town. Across the ancient rubbled court
stands this far grander Parthenon. Pericles had new temples built
later burned, bombed, desicrated
the Acropolis is still standing. Amazing us all long after
those involved have all gone beyond
Athens, Greece, Mediterranean.
Your poem reminds one how disturbing it is that Athens, such a seat of knowledge and wisdom, could not keep itself from the temptations of lessor minds and spirit, allowing the very support surrounding this bastion of inspiration and mind wealth to disintegrate exponentially faster than the ancient edifice still standing as its iconic wealth.
I have not seen the Parthenon. But it stands as a symbol of of how far we have come and how far our modern politicians have strayed from the ideals of the ancient Greeks.
