the second one that i wrote during an all day meeting last week
I've heard all the platitudes
"your a wonderful guy"
"many women would want you"
"can't we stay just as friends"
I can recite memory
hate to count all the times
The shards of my broken heart
have become but pieces
some of the pieces, now bits
once more and the bits, dust
and dust blows away easy
once gone theres no repair
Now I am but sitting here
pondering the question
"so why is it never me"
do good guys finish last
am I one or just lied to
"Why can't it once be me"

A heartfelt piece I can relate too so much. I'm told I'm too nice, and women like bad guys.Well, I'm not gonna change for no one. well done Budd hope things change for the better soon. take care. Moogie.
I'm sure we've all said that more than once in our lifetimes, Budd....I like the way your mind works when you're bored...giggle...and that meeting must have been brutal!
Why Not Me - the very thought that I had when my first marriage collapsed - but ten years later, the love of my life - somehow found me - and I'm grateful each and every day.
Those meetings must be terribly boring! Yet it brought out an intriguing poem with melancholy questions.
When I am in such a sad mood, I often think of verses in the Good Book that say, "Lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way, but let it rather be healed." (Hebrews 12:11-13 KJV)
To me, it means Trust God, and seek His answers. Hope that helps.
Oh, Budd; this is a question asked by many who feel that their lot on life is not fair. I have asked this question in regards to health issues, only I say "Why me, Lord?" I don't know you personally, but if one can tell from your writing... I would have to say that you are a loving and kind man with a fun sense of humor! What more can any woman ask for? Keep making yourself available whenever you can, she just might come along some day and realize your stellar qualities.

class, he was the teachers son. He wanted nothing to do with
me. He had it all so together and was smart and good looking
I was crushed when he showed no interest in me as a friend lol...
But, good guys don't finish last, perhaps its just they "chose"

That's a good question. Perhaps you are setting your sights too high for trying too hard. A good guy at the right time is the right guy. Don't stop looking, just don't stare. You'll get there, I'm sure. I have been there and I know.
All of those platitudes suck! The repair is not easy just as it's not easy to fix up an old house where nothing is plumb!

what a truthful write about something most of us have experienced either in youth or since...only in youth these platitudes are heard as 'there's still hope'. now in maturity they are dishonest, cowardly and decietful and sspoken by dishonest decietful people that we shouldn't have trusted our heart with in the first place and should be thankful we'd been spared from investing any more time with.
ichoose to believe that God has the right person ready and is waiting for us to step back, quit second guessing Him and let him do the sending.
this is a most tender write bud and you've probably made us all sit bacck and think of those that offered us the 'just stay friends' bullshit malarkey-doo crapola. i liked the lump this 'nekid' write left in my stomach...pat

Budd, If you have shared a love or came close to it being a love why would anyone wish to be friends...we are talking oranges and apples.

I know this guy who fervently believes after many failed relationships: when the student is ready,the teacher will appear. Believing such is sometimes reserved for the more scholarly minded, but he believes it's the holy grail for relationships, especially for men. He could be right...maybe? Super bright women, after all, is some kind of catch. I know. PS - For a voice such as that of this poem, it will happen, just as it did for Carl Sandburg.

Than it will not be a matter of "good guys or bad guys", it will be you and you will know.
Despite the desperation, despite the pain of your broken heart, the poem in itself is wonderful
I'm trying to cope with my own, "can't we stay just as friends" crap. I doubt it. Once you were lovers "friends" you'll never be. At least here in my neck of the woods.
