As a rabbit he learned well
the stories, games, other skills. An honored hunter later
His warrior skills greater. Counting coup among the best
years of followwing the blessed.
Now an old grey man
he sits here gazing alone. Watching the others love life
almost none know of his strife. That she who holds his rapt heart
is far beyond and apart.
He will rise and do his must
heart gone a hole in his breast. Down in the indian land
where he once roamed all around. His dream he keeps this someone
a forever yet to come.
Somtimes time is a cruel thing...then again it can be the best answer to many things. His dream ..forever yet to come, while living, a hope to be...

The recollection of having been young together returns
like a boomerang later in life when... "he sits here gazing alone",
to realize it was a real happiness, and now making the memory
of..."this someone".. energy source for..."a forever yet to come".

I recall my initiation into the Order of the Arrow. After bread and water for two days and spending the night alone in the woods with only a blanket, I recited what I heard and saw to the elders. As they slapped me on the shoulder three times, they proclaim my name as “ Scared Rabbit.” Apparently they had either run out of names or had misjudged my vivid description of chipmunks scurrying about in the night. I was always fearless and very comfortable in wilderness situations. Alas, I never found a maiden that shared my love of the wilderness.
The cycle goes on and on as the young experience the joys of love and the thrill of life to "Now an old grey man".."heart gone a hole in his breast.". I had a tear run down my cheek after I read this.
There's an old saying, "Never give up hope." There's another old saying, "Don't walk down a non-ending road." I don't know if that last quote is really an old saying, but it sounds like it could be.
