a thought i had years ago, but with a new twist

3-23-2014

Driving through this cloud on the ground
some call it fog, it is cold death.
Here on Tallamena a shroud
just one wrong move, you plunge the depth.
Told her i was here, she'll worry
and this arete highway steepens.
Ten pointer jumps in a flurry
a jerk of the wheel, pulse quickens.

Swerved wrong, over the precipice
a thousand feet down crashing through.
Bouncing off boulders and tall spruce
flipped over once nothing i can do.
Body flaying over and back
only thought i have is how she'll be hurt.
Screams in my brain all going black
windows broken i'm covered in dirt.

Snapping limbs as i tumble down
rocks smashing metal, tossed about.
End over end, side to side, all blown
i love you, i love you, i shout
In a cold sweat, i sit upright
looking around i see her there.
Asleep but saying "You alright"
then i kiss her,"baby i'm here".

Nice. A realistic bit of wordsmithing, bringing the drama full circle with the awakening. Kudos.

You certainly carried through the action well here, Budd. Choosing to 'bold' cap every other line was also a plus. A vivid vision adeptly expressed. ~~ Diana

Definitely held my attention from beginning to end. You captured the confusion and panic very well, but I was so happy it was a dream and not a memory.

Enjoyed reading ...
