After 3 1/2 feet of snow in 30 hours and days of being snowed in at home then cold drizzle is finally melting the snow covering everywhere.
Shadows shift and drift just out of sight
in these mists of mysterious white,
upon these hollows between the heights
such that our heads search left and right.
Once we'd been entombed for days on end
by feet of white upon the land,
now cold drizzle Mother Nature sends
blurring visions beyond our hands.
Dampened spirits we'll strive on to fight
with glowing hearths the cold to fend,
and loved ones close at heart in the night
until this season comes to end.
WELL I KNOW ALL OF THIS IS OVER BY NOW. I GUESS WHEN THERE'S SO MUCH OF IT ITS 'PRISTINE BEAUTY' GETS SORT OF SWALLOWED UP IN THE OVERFLOW. BUT YOU CAN'T SAY IT WASN'T EXPECTED AND NOW...SPRING...WHICH WAS ALSO EXPECTED IS JUST ABOUT KNOCKING AT THE DOOR. I BETCHA GLAD SHE'S ALMOST HERE...HUH? GREAT WORK, BUDD - LOVE THE IMAGERY. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Wow, 3.5 feet in one storm...we got one storm of about 19 inches this winter but it was gone in a few days of warmer weather...I was stuck in my motorhome several years ago when we had three such storms go through dropping 3 feet each...that was as harrowing an experience that I would ever want to happen again...-e-
Believe it or not Budd, I miss the snow. I was raised in northern Alberta where the winters were very long but I have always had a "penchant" for snow. Now winter here on the west coast to speak of for several years now. Thank you for sharing. Love and peace,
Being snow bound was FUN when I was my fathers little one! However as each year passes by the cold weather and snow is no longer my friend. For one slip on snowy ice could be the end for this Senior Citizen my friend. Excellent poetic thoughts Budd!
Only was snowbound once and would've been a few times more had it not been for powerful snowplows clearing access to the roads, so I know the feeling for at least three days when our supply of food ran out.
Winter weather is fickle and can be beautiful and serene one moment, and then turn on you with bitter cold and blizzard. So glad you had a warm hearth and home to cuddle up in until spring comes.
There's something so rewarding in reading words so well designed and inscribed for the reader to appreciate nature, even though for so many, the norm is to go from day to day wearing blinders, too fixed on the carrot dangling in front of their eyes, eyes unfortunately belonging to those who only see acquiring stuff as the enjoyment of life. Yes, snow, seasons and all that is has to offer is priceless.
Well written, very true, it's been so cold here til today then went up to 53 degrees, and rained a while, and melted lots of the 30 inch snowfall. I can feel spring coming, but Feb and March can be snowy too here where I live.
Ahhh . . . You posted it after all . . . Can absolutely relate . . . Use to live in New York City, Denver and Cheyenne . . . Yep I know the feeling . . .
