just a thought as I drove down a two lane rural road today here in West Virginia.

November 10, 2017

Wonderous decidious scarlet and amber
intermingled with ochre, gold and yellow.
Dangling from umber tentacles of lumber
or wafting forlorn in Novembers bellow.

Splashes appear of verdant greens and olive
of those whose color never change in autumn.
In these mountains of vibrant vistas we live
where painted leaves dance to this seasons rhythm.

Down country lanes, over hills and down hollows
brisk morning breezes chill noses and fingers.
a precursor to a winter that follows
when all huddle by fires embers that lingers.

But for now we will enjoy the spectacles
of geese winging in vees to far southern climes.
While squirrels scamper to hoard their eddibles
and the symphony of bare limbs playing chimes.

You brought back my days of weekend romps halfway to Maryland and back just to wind those country roads with spectacular vistas around every corner. The only thing that could top it were some of my memories of autumn on the lakes of Wisconsin or its hilly areas with amber crops stretched along the valley to red barns set up against the hill covered with fall colors in abundance.

Man, I miss it so. Don't miss the cold weather and icy roads though.

Colorfully composed with nice visuals. I'm thinking more the rhythm of life than 'spectacles'. But I understand how they could be construed as such. Enjoyed. Peace...

Beautifully described, having special meaning for me as I sit here in the desert and watch "the dust". Your vivid words, your verses, recall and evoke memories of my childhood when autumn always came with its special feeling of, yes, wild geese and hoarding squirrels and all those blazing leaves.

What a spectacle of earthy and suitable verbiage: "deciduous, ochre, umber" depicting the shedding of motley autumn leaves and oh...the rhythm of "amber" and "lumber" and "yellow" and "bellow" and "fingers" that "lingers", a poetic song and dance, "a precursor to...winter" reminiscent of the great 20th century poet Robert Frost, known for his realistic renderings of rural life. Makes me wish I was on that rural West Virginia (Mountain Mama) road with you to see what you saw.

While reading this artistic offering, it was as if I was being transported on a giant leafy umber branch encased by a "symphony" of autumn. I will print this and share it with my nieces and make an attempt to memorize it like I memorized Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening" when I was in the 8th grade. Oh, yes, this poem brings me back in time to a good place. Great job Budd and I earnestly salute you on Veterans Day.
