Once accepted and now fewer than there used to be

Outcasts separated from the main stream consciousness
People on the inside wondering about their foolishness

Puffs of rising white smoke not the sign of cessation
The smoke signals to the world their alienation

Exiled and maligned by their own government
Misunderstood, their abuse and torment, permanent

Denied basic freedoms, scorned for needing the fire
Their desire is simply not to be a pariah

They are advised to; Give it up, Quit right away
“Good” people and politicians have decided they’ll pay

So their costs continue to rise with no end in sight
But still outside they stay choosing to smoke rather than fight
