Confusing Relief

Am I healing by doing nothing?
Or is this an excuse to shut down?
To slide through the days and
expect nothing of myself?
I feel disconnected to the creator.
Or could my silence be a prayer?

I resume my history of pain
and do not recognize the transformation.
I can get up now.
I can walk without crumbling.
I stand at length looking up at summer trees
as the outdoor shower dances to the sounds of crickets.

I must embrace the newness of it all.
I cannot fall back into refusal.
Reasons for removing myself from this world.
I can paint in secret, so that no one will know.
Years of other people’s art and colors
can become mine, if only I will fill the vessels
with water and touch my brushes to pure white paper.

Darling Janet... you describe what I know myself only too well, when mind and body militate against each other sometimes in the aftermath of huge physical or emotional trauma. My biggest lesson - which I am STILL so slow to learn - is that of self-love and patience: with life and with ME! (Even if I AM tiresome in the extreme and my own worst company! :) ) You, I am sure, answer all the questions you pose yourself and in full. Trouble is, we argue with ourselves, don't we? Head and heart tend to disagree at times. Time is a-plenty when you are fully recovered... and that time will arrive all the more quickly if you are kind to yourself. Also, your perspectives will be all the different for having allowed yourself this gracious space primarily to wallow in "an attitude of gratitude" and to allow THAT it's full wide-reaching healing power. An honest, beautifully crafted write that speaks volumes as one who knows both the joy and the agony of losing one habitude of life and longing impatiently to be fully immersed in another. It will speak to any who find themselves in a similar situation. A light and delicate touch that is descriptive and not prescriptive, and therefore exudes a quiet graciousness not withstanding its pangs. Grace, peace and love to you always. AND especially full restoration and healing... they years that the locusts have stolen WILL be redeemed, I am sure. Bless you and thank you. Kate xx

touches on familiar aspects of the healing journey, Janet. the questions are good to stay with as the silence is good to sit with sometimes. I find it's part of the creative process. Don't you think? Take care, Dawn

This sounds like a "reawakening" of your creative self Janet now that you've had surgery and are feeling more like participating in those things you are so very good at! Living life....enjoying your "kids".....and of course your fabulous artwork. Welcome back - in ever so many ways. Hugs....

Janet He is guiding you so listen to the silence and keep moving on one step at a time, as you are doing. It will all come together, for you are one who has learned to persevere, even if you don't think so now.;-)Excellent poem!

Love,
Eileen

You paint what some, on the surface, will say is a desperate picture with the words of this poem. I, on the other hand, see a reaching out, a hand outstretched, looking for better days. I believe you will find them, Janet.
