This poem was written by my 16 year old niece, Jessica Lewis. I enjoy encouraging young people in their writing, so I would appreciate the comments of my ad family. Thank you so much. Janet
You tried to compete with me
But you can't defeat me
Why does this have to be a competition
Do I have to use repetition
Do you not understand
I am trying to reach out my hand
I am not trying to win
When did all of this even begin
I just want to be friends
Why do we have to be enemies
Just stop and freeze
Listen to me
Take some responsibility
Suck it up
I have had enough
This is not a competition
About our reputations
I am leaving
You are too depressing
This "competition" is over
I will not be pushed any lower
Three Cheers for Jessica. Walk life's path where only your footsteps are left behind for others to follow. Stand tall upon your own mountain and cherish those who attain to reach the heights you've sought. You and Janet have a Merry Christmas
Jessica it sounds like an adult decision and I'm glad you have the spunk to know when enough is enough.People who constantly play the game of competition, are usually insecure and have something to prove. In the meantime they make relationships miserable, acting superior when in fact they are inferior. Stand your ground! Keep writing, this was well done! Thanks Janet for sharing and giving your niece a chance to spread her poetic wings!;-)

Eileen

This took a lot of heart and some desperation to write, which shows clearly. Make sure she reads it aloud and remember that often better words can be substituted - but I think it shows great promise.

You are promoting the youth, good for ya. This was good. Better than I do on some days. Maybe any day. Keep it up, Jessica Lewis. As they are wont to say, Write On!

It seems that people are always in competition over something anything. The only one you are really in competition with is yourself, to be the best you can be and strive for higher and better, and for putting something back into the system, to keep it going for other bright young folk. Well said post.
