Budding trees, aroma of spring,
memories of canoes gliding across shaded water.
The smell of an old cabin and taste of iron water.
Plank floors with a soft patina
created by years of girls’ movements in tennis shoes.
Camp life with it’s sensual pleasures visit my mind.
I can return in a second and make it all real again.
I was unaware of efforts to conceal enticing forces.
Magnetic confusion in an air of unrestraint.
Girls swimming naked side by side.
Their bodies gleaming in the moonlight
like slick female Dolphins.
Do they talk about it around the campfire now?
or does it echo in whispers of intensity?
The old days weren’t that different,
except that the secrets were hidden
in the face of the moon.

I think you'll notice just as many "secrets" abound today but instead of swimming naked side by side, people do everything they can to remove them from themselves, to try to "scrub it clean", and hide it....and so humanity is called wicked
Oh yes!! Totally delightful, Janet... so reminds me of one of my earliest poems based on an REM track, Nightswimming. Utterly gorgeous in your inimitable artist's way. So much delivered in just a few lines - a whole movie here. "Plank floor with a soft patina created by years of girls' movements in tennis shoes" - a stroke of sheer genius!! "I can return in a second and mkae it all real again"... that you surely can, taking us along with you. Wunderbar, Janet, TY Kate xx
Beautifully vivid capturing of the edge of innocence. I like the comparison of the girls swimming to sleek, silvery dolphins gliding through the water in the moonlight. Evocative write....I love it.

That's what I always have maintained, keep your little secrets out behind the barn (in this case, the camp) and not air them out for the whole world to see. LOL
This is intensely nostalic and at the same time borders a bit on the budding side of memories of developing sexuality. You captured well those magic moments where the innocense of childhood mingles with the interest of puberty whether it was your intent to do so or not. Regardless the outcome is one of your best and most unique writes to date in my humble opinion. The images are so clear I almost feel like a peeping tom from the boys camp across the lake watching as the girls frolic.
