Caverns

It seeps into my pores
like mean-spirited prickles.
A cavern forms in the pit of my stomach
and travels upward
to jab my heart with stabbing pain.

The sun is hazy and the rocks are dry.
Warm weather does not heal my emptiness.
No reasons, no explanation,
no beginning no trigger.
Just brain chemistry gone awry.

A brain formed from a gene pool of crazies.
I have been dealt this lot in life.
Sylvia is gone now, and happy where she is.
My dear, witty, creative aunt whose features
I carry inside and out.

It’s adjustment time.
Tune-up time.
Tweak the meds
the psychiatrist says.

Give me relief,
oh, God and Doctor Howard
give me relief!

the synaptic network is controlled by chemicals & electricity ... fortuantely when it malfunctions, there is medication to help balance and maintain the needed tune-up ...

an effective poem on how this condition effects you ...

Cool, a very well executed piece of writing I thought, concise, to the point and well turned. Other than that, all I can say is I sympathise,
but don't despair and don't believe in that bullshit they brainwash you with, you can make it. Saludos

This is most compelling, Janet; many (myself included) will relate. I appreciate your sharing of yourself through your verses. Love, peace, and strength to you,

Treasuries can found in "Caverns"... This poem is a profound picture of emotions in reality exposing many ontologial colors.

Many lessons and wise messages through the lines of "Caverns".

I salute You, Poet!

This is uncanny! I planned to post a poem later on similar topic. written for a bi-polar friend. You are in my prayers, and I hope you will get whatever is necessary to relieve the hellish burden. My thoughts are with you. Janet I'm so glad you could write about it, hopefully it helps a little to share! God bless and don't be too hard on yourself! Do what makes you comfortable.

Love,
Eileen
