I interrogate my memory.
No answers.
Only ominous emotions,
filtering through
as imitation sunlight,
cold aluminum against
winter glass.

What happened
when the blinds were down
but the slats were open?
I still can’t breathe when
my eyes are met by
thin horizontal lines,
wide bands of light.

Depression covers me
like a dark cloud.
Certain patterns on fabric,
Architectural stereotypes
from eras of uncertainty.
Colors and furniture
and the blinds.
What happened
behind the blinds?

I felt this so tangibly that I felt suffocated, Janet. I'm right there with you, locked into this silent memory. Whether a metaphor for a mental state, or an actual situation, both work for me... likewise hard lines slap me up the wrong way, as do all fences, boundaries and unrighteous controls - whether physical or emotional. An astounding write, so clear as to be clinical, but far-reaching and comprehensive in terms of the areas covered. This is stark black and white when I am so comfortable with your artist's palette board of colour. But the effect is amazing. One of your best in my book... Bless you and thank you. Kate xx

Intriguing mystery....lots of things happen behind the blinds - some we figure out with time and others remain buried in our subconscious where they should stay. Interesting subject matter....excellent introspection.

Stunning verse Janet! Do we ever truly know what happened behind the blinds? I wonder if we can be that honest with ourselves! Superb psychological riddle! You are brilliant!;-)

Eileen

Challenging the edges of the box again or so it seems as you leave the reader to wonder and draw their own conclusions on this one.

Move over, George. Janet, what happened behind th blinds is a leading and oft-sued question when the answer if plain and that wart on ther end of your nose. Not YOUR nose, but, you know . . .
