Not sure what part of me wrote this, I just woke up and did so, nonstop...ed

Frozen to Death…

The winter winds did blow,

Like howling wolves in the distance,

Huddled did we in a tent made of canvas,

A small fire our only warmth, toes numb to the touch…

Our hiking boots though waterproof and insulated,

Pushed beyond their endurance limits, wet and frozen, trying to dry,

Better to start the next day in dry shoes and socks,

The snow piling up, today was three feet, tomorrow maybe eight,

To slog through takes great strength of will, will see how we rate…

Clothing we did wear,

Extra packed with care,

Layered we did, like they say way down there,

In the low country before we found ourselves, where?

Lost we are, most likely for life, fear and freezing is what we have here…

We will most likely be found, frozen to each other next spring,

Least ways we will be ready then for burial, no need for refrigeration,

Hope our families understand, we did this for our own sanity,

Now I know for certain, we all have our own bits of insanity,

The cold getting to our minds, the darkness and the winds,

No one will herein ever find us; no one here right now will win…

Keeping this journal so my mind it does not freeze,

Even when I do sneeze it does freeze in the constant breeze,

My compass lost, but I have my temperature gauge, but it stops at zero degrees,

Thought I did our guide had the intelligence, yes the expertise,

Now he lies in a frozen gorge, impaled with an icicle, oh geez…

Out of food for three days now, partners look pretty good tasting,

Cannibalism not out of the question now, one near death, he knows the score,

Kill me he says, then eat me for sustenance, yes food,

Then take my clothes for warmth or you both will be screwed,

No way I say, no way, I can’t do that to you, my friend, I can’t be that crude…

 to be continued, eventually…maybe

Is this where some idiot (me, for instance) says "well, at least you're together" Sigh... I had to say something to counteract my utter goosebumpy feeling from this all-to-real and stark piece! There's no end to your unequaled imagination, Eddie M. Jaysus!! katy xox.

I agree with Ed... Sounds like an entry in a Donner Party journal.

Shivers! I know what it is to be lost. As an adventurer and explorer I have landed up in many extraordinary places. I have not had to face these choices thank God. This was written by someone who has experienced it. I wonder if Ed might not be right. Could you have vicariously experienced this through another or did this happen in a past life? I don't believe in reincarnation but there are sometimes mysteries that cannot be explained. Such is life and what a wonderful thing it is...how hard we cling.
With love

Sounds like a journal someone in the Donner Party might have written. Their wagon train got stuck in the Sierra Mountains, and they turned to cannibalism. Are you sure you haven't lived other lives, Ed?!
