Inspiration from Ed Kostro's "LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND!"

Living in a box…

At least I got socks,

My shoes do stick out at night,

I worry that someone will take them out of my sight,

My clothes and shoes are the only thing I do own,

Without them where could I, in this city roam…?

I live on the street,

I have my own box,

I have fixed it up quite nice,

But for the life of me I can’t keep out the mice,

I would rather live in a nice room with a real bed,

Rather than living in fantasy in my own head…

I may be homeless and a bit mentally ill,

But I have my pride and am intelligent still,

I served this country in the military,

I don’t now like to beg, but it is hard when hungry to be merry…

So if you could please,

I am not asking you to me appease,

I just want to have a real life,

To go to work, to live in other than a box,

To contribute my fair share,

To walk down the street without seeing the stares…

I think this is a perfect match to Ed's poem. Yes wouldn't we all be better off without those stares. And Ed you are right they are our brothers and sisters and they are the ones that Christ spoke about loving and the ones that he went too.

"To walk down the street without seeing the stares…"

Your words echo those of thousands of homeless people across this great land, Ed; and I truly hope things can get much better for them.
They are our brothers and sisters, too.
