Poem Artwork

When fear of death came late in life,

When no child ever knew or heard of strife,

When children were raised by husband and wife,

No reason for a kid to carry to school a knife…

When kids did of their elders respect,

None of us or them were ever perfect,

Everyone’s parents did of us all protect,

There was no such thing as child neglect…

Before guns became toys,

Before girls in gangs did join boys,

Back when being with parents presented joys,

Way back when little girls did present to all poise…

Guess most of us were lucky to have memories of those good days; but for some, their memories are not all good. Points you so graciously state: we grew up with respect for others (especially the Law!), God fearing - if not "switch" fearing, and closer-knit families. Too many kids, born to just kids, are left to raise themselves and expecting "everything" without having to work for it. Lotsa food for thought in this, Ed!

Oh for the good old days, Ed. I agree. It was much simpler then. As I remember, right and wrong was black, or white, no gray areas, no laws in there to protect the guilty and allow them to walk free.
Excellent poem, to remind us all what's missing now.
My warmest regards,
CJ

This is the second poem I've read about the good old days and I cannot but for the second time agree. We were better off when we were worse off. Victor
