I wasn't sure I should,
Hell, I wasn't sure I could,
But I went to the boys home,
Apparently his parents were at the hospital,
Go again to check, yes I would...
More of a nightmare, I hope I never experience,
I can't get the kids screams out of my head,
I keep hearing them over & over again,
I am going to the beach tomorrow,
Hopefully there I can clear out my mind,
Not even here makes me feel better,
Writing in my ever-present rhyme...
When something happens, I will let all know,
I find living without Rufuz is harder than I thought,
Against putting him down I have to this point fought,
All I have done since is sleep,
The one thing I am VERY GOOD at doing,
This world can be, as it has of late, very cheap,
Glad no cliffs are around here,
For I am fast feeling a desire to take a leap...
"Pats Ruffie" " Pats Ed" :)

Don't take that leap. Rufus needs you. Live one hour at a time, one day at a time. Soon the day will come Rufus is back with you. I too, wish you could hear something from Tyler, some news. My prayers are always with you all, Ed. God bless.
Blessings and huggs,

Sorry to be my usual Miss Brit Pain-In-De-Arse, but I think clearer if I bullet point:
1. Yes, it's good to go and make contact with Tyler and his family. You are all in this together and life will have to go on after you ALL - and I mean ALL - get home again. It will be one of the toughest things, but you'll all feel better once it's happened. I totally believe something good - even beautiful - might yet come out of this tragedy.
2. Again, along with the crowd here, we all know and understand how dogs can be - ALL of them. It tends to be when us humans cross the line that their behaviour seems to turn unpredictable. Was it an extremely hot day???? Being tethered and in his own patch, he would not have been able to assume his desired position or do his normal doggy reactions if he felt threatened, therefore lashing out. And dogs ALWAYS give warnings, even if too late. My own Dopey-As-They-Come retriever I would not pull or drag by the collar if she is determined to stay in peace and comfort on the mat and sleep - she WOULD bite me if I forced her! And she always acts up aggressively if I hold her on the lead when other dogs are messing with her. I, too, have a hunch that Rufuz must have had some provocation before voting with his teeth.
3. Still, it's still a very tricky and emotional business. I doubt very much that Tyler will be up for 'fessin-up to anything right now - not while he is still in shock and "hates" Rufuz for what he did. He will naturally assume a self-defensive stance. Perhaps also especially IF he feels a little guilty and in need of all the sympathy he can get. Being economical with the truth, as he sees it, will probably be the best you can hope for right now. But, I tell you what, if you go to see him and show him how sorry you and Rufuz really are and that no-one will be cross with him if he DOES have something to own up to, I'm sure that will help. If there is a real regret and sorrow on both sides, it kinda evens the score...
4. Life after hospital. I'm assuming you are neighbours here if Tyler has played with Rufuz before. You can't go around avoiding each other for the foreseeable future. It's best to make ammends so that you can all be reconciled. There will naturally be a fear and suspicion initially on both sides, but, like I say, perhaps, in the long term and after a lot of re-acquaintance on both sides, SUPERVISED BUT OF COURSE, somehow an even deeper bond might be forged... Ed, maybe this is my girly romantic Hollywood brain, but truly I think this could happen, if both sides are willing to pull together through this. It might swing the other way, of course... that both Tyler and Rufuz will be unreconcileable because of the reality of what took place. But you won't know until you try. And it's important that all your other neighbours SEE and understand that you are all trying to put the incident behind you and that Rufuz isn't some blood-crazed mad dog....
5. Baby, I don't envy you this situation one bit. Hence my desire to do what I can to "be with you" through it. I had a very unhappy Border Collie once who turned loopy because, being a one-person dog, she was left somewhat overlooked when I became very ill over a long period of time and couldn't walk her and care for her like I used to. She ended up biting my Postlady and I had to let her go to another family. It broke my heart, because basically she was only pining her lack of relationship with me, her Mummy. I do feel for you in this.
6. I pray that Rufuz may soon be home, Ed. He won't know what's going on either and if he could speak, then all would be understood and become clear. You will know the minute you see him - assuming, of course, he ISN'T rabid - that all this has been some horrible nightmare of a mistake and a case of one foul outburst as a result of we don't know yet what.
Sorry to blab on, but your last posts have ripped my heart out. Feelin ya, Man. Best foot forward... bite the bullet... and go and make your peace with Tyler... BIG hugs, Edbear. Konsternated (Konstipated???!!!) Kate XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I can understand a Pit-Bull, Rottweiler or even a Doberman Pincher, but a furry ball like Rufuz that had been playing with Tyler before?
I don't buy it, all my life I had dogs around me.
If I were you and push come to shove, I would plant my heels on the ground and ask (politely) that the boy will be asked what he did before he got his face chewed up.
But that's just me.
Hang on there.
Georg
Rufuz would want you to live. Consider this: if you're not around, who will take care of him? Please don't give up, know you're in my prayers, as is Tyler, as is Rufuz. It's not your fault. Don't blame yourself.
(((HUGS))) love and continued prayer, Karla. :(
