Not so funny. However, work is Mammon for the soul. As you know from bitter experience, having no work is pretty empty. But, Parkinson's Law taking effect, your needs expand with your growing funds, until it seems as though you didn't make any headway at all. 90% feel that way. It takes real sacrifice and determination to be in the 10% making headway. And I'm not talking about the 99% on Wall Street. I'm talking about the average Joe on any street.

Some others, families and such have less than half,
I at least have food & fuel & a semblance of normalcy

So many have less and less these very sad days. And unlike others below, I believe this abysmal downward spiral began way back in 2000, when you know who took office. And now many are saying it may take another 10 years to get back on the right track; but perhaps we never will recover.

Really well done....it flowed perfectly and easily to expose the truth which is ...poverty is everywhere and even when we do not accept it or want to see it ...it still hurts to know it is close at hand...your compassion for those less fortunate shines through this poem and makes a mighty point.I applaud this sensitive and profound write.

Hussein's recession sows no glimpse of easing. He has it to where millions and millions of people have no jobs, the small business owners are folding and the rest barely surviving. The rent goes up, the food goes up, EVERYTHING goes up. The people on social security (me) haven't had a raise since he has taken office. No. Money does not last. There is more, much more, but why belabor it. VOTE in 2012.
