Totally FICTION from a nightmare I experienced last night after getting high...

Poem Artwork

 I escaped my death sentence,

Stressed it left me, quite tense,

In fear for my life I traveled,

When I arrived at the end of the road, I unraveled…

For several months I drank Cuba Libre rum,

Washed it down with coke, liquid form & powder,

I got to know, quite personally, the bottoms of every barstool,

They were the best and the worst of the Conch Republic,

They were playing my music ever louder & louder…

One day I awoke on my boat,

Thankfully I found myself still alive & afloat,

My sanity was burned away, but I did need a drink,

So for the moment I settled for a stout…

From that day forward I dried out,

It took time & angels did help me,

I stayed on the boat, felt secure,

Alive I was living for the cure…

When I finally ventured off my boat,

The midday heat was unbearable,

I was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, a bathing suit & sandals,

I was told I did save a child from vandals,

In the keys, vandals are sharks…

The family of the boy, were quite well off,

They supplied me with a cure & of course, the angels,

But when I worry about payment, they scoff,

I only wanted to live my life in a stupor,

But were unable to buy drinks or drugs,

No matter the amount I offered…

So many months it took to get past the desire,

I was sickened by what in my stomach felt like fire,

I couldn’t leave the islands, nor could I send out a wire,

Now that I look back, all I can do is forever inquire,

As to the validity of my past transgressions,

And how to my karma I did pay back my psychotic depression.

Wow! You have detailed dreams. Somehow, I've never found myself on an island in a dream. Unless it was dark and deserted. And I was being chased. Oh, well.

Even though it was a nightmare, this was one helluva a write. Definitely one of your best.

Quite the dream. Resonates somewhat with the trick or treat day approaching. Given your last poem - Debt and Death - one has to wonder what the real nightmare is, the horrific dream you had, or the reality you wake up into. Either way, it's a good thing you can write about it. You're prolly like me in that regard. Writing helps keep us sane. Take care. r

Those of us who finally realized what the hell we were doing to ourselves, and decided to quit. Easy enough to say, "I quit," but the reality was stubborn and didn't want to cooperate. I, like you, fought through it all, but the effort felt like it was going to destroy me. Good for you that you preservered.

This is the longest and bestest poem that I've seen you write in an eon! It is clear that the dream certainly played on your past life and your dream of living the high life in the Caribbean like my cousin used to say with his boat, "Living off the land!" I had to tell him that at sea he would get to eat only seafood. So we went to Canada and caught some mighty fine salmon from the sea, living off the land.

Perhaps ya should follow your dream. But don't look for any angels.

Wild dream, Ed!! I've heard it said that if you don't want to get wet, don't go near the water. (meaning getting sober) Your dream had you right IN the water!!! What a tough time that had to be!! What a dream!! I felt your anxiety in the dream, my friend!!

Love ya!

Such a powerfully engaging account, Ed. Straight, true, and honest... ...intriguing how dreams (visions) try to teach us. My dreams for quite a long time now have been pleasant but... ...leaving me to wonder what they may be wanting to tell (teach) me. Love and peace to you,

Regis
