Police departments, both state and local, thoughout this country are the best,
Their skills and patience are surely put to the test,
Certainly they are paid well for what they do,
And deserve every penny and more as I believe & know, so do you;
They are shot and attacked with every means available,
But always seem to come away with a sense of humor, when capable.

Alas, it is a terrible reality that the United States is a very violent society. That's because citizens are allowed to "bear arms" as some sort of supposed democratic right! Give me a break! In any democracy, our rights should be untrammeled by threats of guns and shooting.
That is why in Canada, for instance, citizens are forbidden to carry guns unless they register both the guns AND the ammunition, and licences can be revoked at the drop of a pin. There is also a Federal gun registry of EVERYONE who does have a gun or rifle.

Our murder rate per CAPITA is less than 10% of that of the USA, our nearest neighbour!
Until America renounces violence, America will always be violent.
Sadly, our poet is all too correct, at least within the boundaries of his nation.
BTW, American citizens, if you try to enter Canada with a gun, Customs will confiscate it until you return home.

Of course, this is not the polices fault, for the most part, rather one based in the higher ups with special interests who debilitate the possiblity of both justice and rehabilitation. They follow in line with a valorous loyalty to a system of order, one which unfortunately favors the rich and ultimately, the corrupt.
You might want to remove the second "I" in L4, and "So do you" is grating as an unbased assumption.
