Hours to Kill...

A killer writes about himself, just hours before his end comes with electricity...

(Written by a killer about to die in the electric chair,

purely fictional, but inspired by the movie,

                    The Green Mile)

Hours to Kill…

So few hours to kill, before I die,

Electricity shall be passed thru my body,

Until I am dead or lit up, whichever comes first,

The stench of death, will be smelled, not felt,

The fear of death, I have all but lost,

Just let it happen now, no reprieves,

I cannot suffer anymore in this mortal coil…

No more will I be forced to kill others,

They will now kill me and I will face,

Those that I did in sitting at the right hand,

Of the god of their choice, to be judged,

To be forgiven, hopefully, for the crimes,

That I have been convicted of & I stand…

I will know not peace till the electricity is turned on,

Some say find the lord, before I do move on,

I say, let him find me, he did forsake me as a kid,

Since then I have killed and maimed,

No age, color, or sex did I shy away from,

I am the ultimate killing machine…

But it was not always this way; I remember a childhood,

One of wonder and fulfillment, till my mother died,

And into that shelter I went, learned all my bad habits then,

Learned how to kill and not get caught for thirty-odd years,

Moved from place to place, serial killer in one town,

Rapist in another, child molester in the next,

Racist killer in the town after that…

Did I send to their death those that deserved it?

Or did I do what god said, his voice heard in my head?

I cannot say, was told I was insane, but also that I was inane,

I can’t decipher what it is I am, actually, but will know soon,

When I am quite very DEAD…

Too long to wait, too many hours, let it be over,

Let this life of pain end; let me sleep,

Let me never again offend…

Excellent! This has the tragic ring of truth. Obviously comes out of compassion unruined by failure to recognize the ways in which parents and society in general can twist all the good out of a person. Even make hi/r kill. As a former therapist, I know how much impact a damaged brain can have, as well as how experience (not just
physical forces) shape the brain. Nothing in life is simple, is it? Thanks for writing this. Phyllis {with sloppy kisses from Nick & Shoog, who are classified for some purposes as canines}.

ED-----THIS is good!!!!! It's different from what you usually write, mostly humor . . . that's what I expected. Profound and thought-provoking, deep and philosophical. Thanks for sharing.
I wish I had hours to kill--I'm off to work again this weekend.
P.S. Hope you're lit up when you die--won't feel any pain that way.
