As I've noted many times before, by many measures, the world has been getting better every year in this century, including last year.
I think your concern is related to the speed with which new information is arriving on the scene as the shift from timeworn refereed news media to on the scene amateur journalists with blogs overloading the senses with instantaneous information worldwide.
I see it as wonderful, Marshall McLuhan's global village coming to pass. Like all old people with rapidy calcifing brains, you think the United States is declining. I think it's just blending in with the rest of the world. No longer pompously claiming to be better than everybody else… Except for Trump who keeps pumping up the volume.
I like Schwarzenegger better. After being governor of California, his tune has changed.
