As an octogenarian 
I wonder if I have a
responibility to society.
It seems to me that I do.

As an observer of life
I wonder if other folks 
feel a responsibility to society.
It  seems to me many don't.

It would appear that the work ethic
many inherited growing up
has of late fallen prey
to the welfare system.

So... just what is responsibility?
'tis a moral obligation to
behave correctly toward
or in respect to society.

Individuals have responsibility
to control personal behavior,
assume civic duty as a citizen
to pay taxes and vote.

Elders will do well to keep themseves
physicallly and mentally fit and
prepare a will, preplan funeral
and buriial arrangements.

Society will be the benefactor
if elders mingle with all generations,
share their acquired knowledge
and exercise the Golden Rule.

And... Oh yes... we all must
be responsible to not let
aging get us down.
It's too hard to get back up.
