A protest against materialism and the manipulation of minds to sink into indifference against the suffering masses around the world

'Flies in Amber'

Are we kept like flies,

Tempted by the amber

Waiting to fall,

Into the numbing trap

Of existence for our own sake,

And not for others

The shiny baubles on shelves,

The must haves, we must have

The honey flows over,

The glass jars of emptiness

That wait to be filled,

So we can be relevant

The echoes of resistance,

Are stifled

As we are swept,

To the temples of consumption

Those other lives we don't see,

Beyond the amber

The oceans of want,

The hunger of the empty jars

I gather from your words that those of us who have the ability are filling our lives with excess consumption while so many in the world have nothing to consume. Reminds me of the time while going through the bazaar on the way to my host's walled compound in Dhaka Bangladesh. Observing that the ancient, worn wooden stalls contained very little choices for shopping, one or two items, to sustain the shopkeeper in poverty.
