A deer lay helpless, its back broken, in the headlights of a car, its legs moving, trying to escape.
A lone headlight beam
Bounces against the
Bank of
Thick fog.
Choreography of
Tangled legs
Flailing helplessly
In the dark.
The driver
Watches with
Compassion for his
Crumpled
Fender.
